What to Pack for a Nile Cruise: The Complete Guide

A Nile cruise is a relaxed, hotel-style experience. You don’t need anything special — but there are a few items that will make a real difference.

**Clothing**
Light, loose cotton and linen clothes are ideal — Egypt’s sun is intense and natural fibres breathe better than synthetics. Pack for warm days (23–35°C) and slightly cooler evenings. A light layer (fleece or light jacket) is useful for October–March evenings. For temple visits: shoulders and knees should be covered out of respect — bring a light scarf or shawl. Comfortable walking shoes are essential.

**Sun protection**
Factor 50 sunscreen, a wide-brim hat, and UV-protective sunglasses are non-negotiable. The Egyptian sun at midday is unforgiving, especially on open sun decks.

**Documents and money**
Passport, e-Visa confirmation (if applied online), travel insurance certificate, and US dollars for tips (budget $10–15 per person per day for the crew). Credit cards are accepted onboard; USD cash is most useful off the ship.

**Electronics**
Universal adapter (Egypt uses Type C plugs), portable phone charger, and a good camera. Drone permits for Egypt require advance application and are not guaranteed — leave the drone at home.

**Health**
Insect repellent (evenings at Kom Ombo and Aswan), Dioralyte/rehydration tablets, and basic painkillers. Bottled water is provided on the ship — always drink bottled, not tap.

**What to leave behind**
Formal clothes — cruise dinners are smart casual at most. Heavy luggage — a 20kg bag is more than sufficient for a 5-night cruise.
